1. Responsibility of captains
The captain is responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws.

2. Players’ conduct
A player shall comply with instructions of the umpire, and not criticise by word or action, disrespect or generally behave in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute.

3. The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for:
• Your opponents
• Your own captain
• The roles of the umpires
• The game’s traditional values

4. It is against the Spirit of the Game:
• To dispute an umpire’s decision by word, action or gesture
• To direct abusive language towards an opponent or umpire
• To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance:
a. to appeal knowing that the batsman is not out
b. to advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing
c. to seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivating one’s own side

5. Accepting Decisions
There is no place for any disagreement with the umpires’ decisions or any act of dissent, either verbal or physical, the field of play.

6. Players
Captains and umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution towards this, and to play throughout the match in a sporting and competitive manner whatever the state of the game or the likely outcome.

7. Applaud the new batsman
It is considered good practice to clap a new batsman making their way to the wicket.

8. Changing the condition of the ball
Polishing, drying or removing mud from the ball is fine – Tampering with the seam or surface of the ball using any sort of artificial substance is not.

9. Dangerous bowling
If a bowler keeps bowling short-pitched or high full-pitched balls which could injure the batsman, then these deliveries will be called a no-ball by the umpire.

We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the game.

When playing, I will:

• Always play to the best of my ability.
• Play fairly – I won’t cheat, complain or waste time.
• Respect my team-mates, the other team, the umpire and my coach/manager.
• Play by the laws of cricket, as directed by the Umpire and my captain
• Shake hands with the other team, coaches, umpires and scorers at the end of the game.
• Actively listen and respond to what my coach / manager tells me.
• Talk to someone I trust or the Club Welfare Officer if I am unhappy about anything at
my club.

I understand that if I do not follow our Youth Players’ Charter, any of the following actions may be
taken by the club.

I may:

➢ Be required to apologise to my team-mates, the other team, umpire or team manager.
➢ Receive a formal warning from the coach or the club committee.
➢ Be dropped or substituted.
➢ Be suspended from training.
➢ Be required to leave the club.
