Farnham Cricket Club are devastated by the news that life member and Surrey and England legend Graham Thorpe MBE has passed away aged 55.

Son of Geoff and Toni, brother of Alan and Ian and uncle to Nathan, Graham played his youth cricket at Farnham before joining Surrey and becoming one of England’s greatest ever batters.

Over his England career, Graham accumulated 6,744 runs at an average of 44.66 over 100 test matches, making 16 centuries along the way, including one on his test debut against Australia in 1993. In one day internationals Graham scored 2,380 runs in 82 matches.

After his retirement from International cricket, Graham turned to coaching in Australia before returning to the UK to work with Surrey. He then spent 12 years as part of the England coaching staff and was famously part of the backroom team when England won the world cup final in July 2019.

Graham’s father Geoff is a former Farnham Cricket Club chairman and his mother Toni was a longstanding scorer and supporter of the club. Brothers Ian and Alan both captained Farnham 1st XI and his nephew Nathan is part of the first team today.

Jamie Strachan, Farnham Cricket Club Chairman said “this is a devastating day for the FCC community, Graham was a legend of English cricket and our heartfelt condolences go out to Geoff, Ian, Alan and the rest of the Thorpe family at this incredibly sad time”
